Corruption
is everywhere. It is the number one problem of the Philippines. And it will be
forever problem of the country. One cannot move away people from being corrupt
especially in the government. Maybe the Philippines is rich if no one in the government
is corrupt. Isn’t it that the government should be the role model of the
people? But why is it that they are the ones who are “bad influence” to the
people? People look up to the government officials for they run the country,
for the country to be prosperous, crime free, and a lot more. But today, we can
see everywhere that there are numerous people in the government who is or are
corrupt. Politics reflects what model of development, including just an
economic growth model. Lately politics has come under the increasing influence
by certain rich class which has powerful links to business, media and politics.
Graft and corruption has been widely studied and described as the social cancer
in the political structure and process of the Philippine society. It has been
identified within the land of political corruption that put down the economic
growth and development as the main cause of “underdevelopment” in developing
countries in Asia and Africa. Everything is connected. And one’s connection of
corruption brings a lot of people to corruption. Whenever we see news in
televisions, we always see new government official discovered to be corrupt,
same thing in radios and print. How can we have a prosperous country if we have
a government like this?
We
may not totally eliminate the corrupt but lessening it will be a great step
towards success. Incoming political administration must marshal political
support for inclusive growth and a development because the poor, though a large
sector, are a weak group in the balance of political power.
